Herding Dogs Here We Come...!!!

We had the most wonderful Thanksgiving Weekend. On Monday, with 8 Shelties, we headed to Tucker Creek Farms to get them tested for their HIT (Herding Instinct Title). It was fantastic, out of the 8 dogs, 5 obtained their HIT with Sheep, and 2 earned theirs on Ducks. We are very fortunate to have Tanya Wheeler living close by with her sheep, and we are doubly lucky that Tanya is a CKC Herding judge. There are several Herding Trials held at the farm during the year, and of course, we can use the sheep for training. Just watch us next spring.

Well, here we are ready to work our dogs.
Lori Stecky - Tasha/Amber/Strykr
Melanie Parker - Cassidy
Margie Parker - Emperor
Anna Sovierno - Flynn/Baron/Precious

Mel Parker came out to cheer everyone on....

Ken Kawchuk with Natasha...
Our official dog holder......
Yup... it was early morning and cool out... :)

Ch. Dalgarnoch Strykr of Wildpine
Is it my turn yet.... huh... huh ... is it...is it.... !!!

Watch them Strykr.
Lori and Tayna introducing him to the sheep.
He was a very quiet and steady worker.

No doubt here about being a natural herder.
Strykr just worked those sheep like he has done it for years...

Ch. Dalgarnoch Emperor
Empy worked like a real pro.
Margie had to scoot just to keep out of his way.
He just loved it, and didn't want to stop.

Hurry up mom.... I'm coming through

Watch out.. here I come again

Dalgarnoch Velvet Goldmine
Amber worked ok with Lori, but she was more concerned
with everyone outside the arena.
She got her HIT on Ducks the next day..yahoo..

BPIG Ch. Dalgarnoch Sundance Kid
No one had to show Cassidy how to move them.

Now that is how you gather sheep.... fabulous

Cassidy was so funny.... He started out such a gentleman
with Melanie, but once he got in the groove...
there was no stopping him... he was great

BIS MBPIG Ch. Dalgarnoch Centre Stage
Our Man Flynn wasn't bothered by the sheep,
but he just wanted his "mommy".
Too cute. We'll try him again at another time

Dalgarnoch Precious Moment
Precious was just amazing.
Check out the body language. She didn't have to be shown anything.

Tanya had to slow Precious down she was such a go getter.
She really listened to Anna too, when she was asked to stop.

Dalgarnoch Grizzly Adams
Baron , was also a natural. Just look at him go!

Those Sheep knew he meant business....

Dalgarnoch Natasha (ptd)
Is it finally my turn...???

Tasha did ok, but she was bored being the last dog of the day.
We should have run her earlier when she was keen.
She did get her HIT the next day on ducks...

Margie Parker and Ch. Dalgarnoch Emperor
Margie changing her "Sheepy Boots".
The end to a great day.
